Riverside Fishing Access outside the target area
Project Name: Riverside Fishing Access-current site name is Jeffrey's Landing fishing access site
Sponsor: Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks
Year: 2007
Grant Amount: $25,000
Total Project Cost: $350,000
Project: The roaring waters of the Stillwater River have been a popular recreation area for floating and rafting for decades. The 4 acres on the Stillwater River near the Red Barn Bridge has been no exception. A nearby parking lot and bridge promote public recreation for water users, bank-side fishing and exploring.
Purpose: Provide river recreation on the Stillwater River.
Due to conflicts between anglers, rafters and landowners in the area, traditional water access was prohibited in the area. Funds provided by the Montana Fish & Wildlife Conservation Trust, Fish Wildlife and Parks and the Governor’s Access Initiative have gone toward the purchase of the 4 acre parcel. With the purchase, the area has been re-opened to allow public access for launch/take out for river floating, fishing and area hiking. The area around the Stillwater River maintains in large recreational demand. Additionally, the inclusions of a graveled, 20-vehicle parking lot, latrine, and boat launch have been included to encourage public recreation in the area. Under the guidance of Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks, parking lot maintenance, weed control and regular monitoring of the area is facilitated.
Directions: Located in Stillwater Country, approximately 2.4 miles south of Absarokee, Montana on the southeast side of the Stillwater River and southeast of Highway 78.
