Mountain Acres (Big Spring Creek Fishing Access Site)

Photo of Big Spring CreekProject Name: Mountain Acres Acquisition-currently named: Big Spring Creek Fishing Access

Sponsor: Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks

Year: 2010

Grant Amount: $54,000

Total Project Cost: $1,380,000

Project: Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks purchased fee title to this property in order to restore Big Spring Creek to it's more natural meandering pattern and to increase public recreational access with an additional Fishing Access Site.

Purpose: This project will restore a more natural riffle pool stream and should increase fish numbers, riparian vegatation and stream length. A similar project upstreat at Brewery Flats nearly doubled trout numbers when completed. Big Spring is a popular trout streat that, unlike larger productive fisheries, requires multiple access points since it is too deep to wade and too small to float.

Directions: This parcel is located in Lewistown, Montana.
